| Our Corporate Strategy:
The need for road reconstruction ![]() ![]() According to a recent 'International Rescue Committee' Mortality Survey Report1, years of war and neglect have left the country in ruins and reaching a doctor or a hospital can sometimes take days. Patients are typically carried on homemade stretchers on small jungle paths to see a doctor. Even well maintained and modern roads can become impassable in extreme weather conditions. According to the World Bank, the majority of the DRC's road network are impassable even during the dry season. Access to markets and social and administrative services for most of the rural population is severely curtailed due to nonexistent transport services, which in turn is due to the bad condition of roads. Poor road infrastructure has therefore been identified as a major constraint to economic development. At present the road infrastructure of the DR Congo is declining year on year. Therefore it is imperative for the health and economic prosperity of its peoples that the road infrastructure of the country be reconstructed and its road building capacity be strengthened. Our Corporate Strategy: The future for road construction in the region ![]() Epoc Congo Limited hopes to establish a long term partnership combining specialist engineering and business skills honed in both the UK and the DR Congo to delivery an improved high priority road network for the people of the DR Congo. The DR Congo Government has identified 15,800 km of high priority road network to be provided within the country. Presently over 6,000 km of unpaved road is funded by the International Development Association, the European Commission and other funding agencies including the African Development Bank and the UK Department for International Development. Other prospective schemes in the region include the extension of the Trans African Highway from Beira to Lobito and the development of the Congo Pedicle from Mokambo to Chemba. The Pro Routes Project is part of a package of schemes designed to reconstruct the economic infrastructure of the DR Congo in the context of the wider need for political and economic stabilisation in the region. The Pro Routes Project provides a starting point for Epoc Congo Limited to develop a strategic working relationship in the region with the various stakeholders involved and affected by the on going task of road reconstruction in the DR Congo. Our Corporate Strategy: Our ethos and long term commitment With the international community having identified road construction and road re-opening as a strategic priority in support of the wider economic development of the region, there remains a strong demand for experienced engineering consultancy to support the long term capability building in the DR Congo. Epoc Congo Limited are committed to supporting these long term goals through building a partnership with local labour, funding agencies, local communities, statutory authorities and NGO's to provide sustainable economic infrastructure development delivered in a manner that provides wide ranging economic benefit without compromising the biodiversity of the physical environment, community cohesion and the natural resources of the region. |
